Natural Beauty Concept
This week, I have been exploring the idea of deforestation, and how Christmas tree farms etc are stripped every few years and harvested, however one thing I often find is that trees are often left behind, knotted trees, damaged trees, trees that are not worth harvesting, these trees are often left behind because they are considered imperfect, so I have taken it upon myself to try make people see these trees as a thing of beauty.

Still Working away on the Chasing Twilight Body of work and is starting to take shape and this week I have been visiting the east coast of Ireland, Ballymoney, Co Wexford. I set about locating the wreck of "Orphan Girl". The ship Orphan Girl, out of London for Liverpool "with her cargo of cement," is "stranded on a place called Sea-field shore...; four of her crew were saved." A heroic boy is lost, the captain is cowardly, "but we may blame the Coast-guards." according to one source. Locating the wreck was relatively easy; however accessing it was a different story. It was a number difficult climbs but felt the results were very much worth it.

Return to lomography & Darkroom
This week I have been busy in the dark room developing rolls of film that I shot in last year, on various toy cameras from home made Pin Holes to Holgas and Dianas, using both conventional and experimental process such as using coffee as a developer etc. However due to the costs involved in darkroom printing I cannot hand print the negs and will have to settle for digital scans at present. I have been a long time fan of Lomography and lo-fi photography which has its own aesthetic and freedom from technics by being so simple and inconsistent that these cameras develop there own personalities due to the faults or some might say virtues.

Adventures with Holga
My work takes me all over the country week to week, and when I set out I often have one location or subject in mind. I often see scenes and subjects on the way, that I do not stop to photograph properly. That is why, a number of years ago, I started bringing my Holga with me as I drove, walked, and climbed my way across the country. Using one roll of film per journey, I would snap the images, I didn’t have the time to photograph with the attention they deserve, I usually print single images from the roll but lately have decided that sometimes a picture is only part of the story and have started presenting the contact sheets as a single image, often framed in acrylic and stud mounted. I find the more I look at them the more I see, it almost reminds me of a childs story book and when shown to friends and other photographers, I ask them to piece together the story based in the images. It amazes me every time, the difference perspectives people can have based on a handful of images.
Results from the darkroom
Over the last few weeks I have been in the darkroom working on alterative processes e.g. using coffee and tree bark as print developers on negatives that were shot on lo-fi cameras. Here are some of the results. This image was shot on a Holga with across 100 and developed in 25 year old Microphen, and pushed 4 stops above box speed rating, then printed on 15 year old Kodabrome paper, developed in coffee and washing soda mix and other household ingredients and chemicals. The results are not your typical archive print, but I quite like it.
